JANUARY BOARD OF EDUCATION
January 28th, 2020
After yet another racist incident at Saline that blew up, students have had enough. Students of color from the new CSU Club invited UpRoar! and other students to speak at The Board Of Education Meeting to push for better policies and curriculum to make Saline (89% of students being white) a more inclusive (and less racist) place.Â
It's time for Saline to get its act together!

STONEWALL
June 3rd, 2019
For the 50th Anniversary of Stonewall, UpRoar! decided to create a monument to the leaders of the movement and the LGBT+ Community! This was a big project to take on, but it was overwhelmingly successful and memorable! On one side of the wall were names and pictures of important moments and people, and on the other side, it was blank, allowing students to write on a sticky note and place it on the wall. This was a place where students could share what's important to them and "What's their pride?"
Because this project was so successful, UpRoar! is excited and looking forward to making more projects/memorials in the future!

BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING
May 28th, 2019
Ever since the "I Am Jazz!" reading back in December, a small group of parents has continued to appear at Board Of Ed meetings, complaining about how their child was exposed to "sensitive material/political propaganda/and anti-religious ideas." For the longest time, we let this pass, but eventually, we had enough. UpRoar! members, supporting family, past Salinians, and even some people from Ann Arbor came to this BOE Meeting to speak and support the school in their decision to read "I Am Jazz!" Over 25 people went up to the podium to speak in support, the room was overflowing with people out the door because there weren't enough seats for everyone, and after every speech, there would be thunderous applause and even sometimes a standing ovation. This was a room full of love and acceptance, not hate or ignorance, just like every room in and out of a school classroom.

I AM JAZZ! EVENT
December 8th, 2018
This event was to celebrate diversity and acceptance! When Saline Area Schools took on the reading of "I Am Jazz!" (a children's book on a transgender child that teaches kids to be accepting) there was much backlash and outrage from parents. We, as a club, felt it to be important that the trans students and community members of Saline feel supported and loved. We held an event with the support of Mr. Hamilton, Viva Rosenfield, and Darcy Berwick at Liberty for a public reading of "I Am Jazz" and had an open panel of transgender students answer questions. That morning at Liberty was full of love and acceptance and we are forever grateful to SAS and all the allies out there who supported us and this reading.
